Politics

I recently watched a short video clip of legislative assembly of one of the states of India. It was a conversation between the chief minister and the opposition party leader where both of them are speaking about each others' party strengths. After watching it on youtube, I started thinking about the politicians, government, scams, corruption and finally about future politics. So, this is my view on making a strong politics in India.

A very good friend of mine, Mr.Dhiman, once said "Agar sarkar chahta hai to desh ko kuch bhi kar sakta hai. Koi rok nahi sakta". It means that a government can drive a country to its desired direction against all the oppositions. True! Such a force, like a power source of a star, if handled/managed by good people can do wonders to a nation.

An engineer cannot go make a successful film, just because he has got money and interest. At the same time, a poet cannot always be a successful planner in a government. But a person who is trained to manage the so called 'big things' can do that. India has a very big talent pool of such managers. By the word 'manager', I am not referring only to the MBAs, but to all the managers. These managers are currently  using their talent in building values of private firms (mostly its profit). If these people involve in the planning of a nation's growth, what is going to be the outcome? Definitely very big. My friend Mr.Arnab often says, "think that you are the god. Work as if you have all the resources and you are responsible for your people's well being". So, good managers with such a mindset will propel the country to success. And I 'd label such people as Elites in the following lines, as they are the nation drivers.

It is not so easy to get into politics. Rather it is dangerous to enter into politics for a person who is leading a happy life earning Rs.100000 per month in India. But one can start with small positions like a Councilor of a small village. Just imagine if slowly most village councilors are Elites, an Elite could be the next municipal councilor. Again, with time, if these positions are also dominated by the Elites, they can slowly take over the constituency, then state and finally the nation. Why not? This may sound like an overnight dream. But with time, this is possible. I am not discussing about the problems associated in being a politician. But being an Elite, one must be ready to manage the difficulties evolving and continuously improve. One may even have to cheat the law. But there is nothing wrong in it if the nation's future is concerned. People nowadays understand politics. What they say is "Make money for your needs but don't earn a couple of trillions, just to safe it as black money. It is going to give you instability rather than security".

The Elite could be in YOU. If you feel so, listen to nobody and just do it. You will be a seed for a future tree.

Music review - Nee thane en ponvasantham

'Raja kaiyya vecha athu wronga ponathilla' should have been the one liner for this album. Gautham Menon,  as always known for his 'natural' plays, this time has come up collaborating with the Maestro of music.

I write this review only as a music lover. I am no Rajaraja to write reviews on Raja's music.

After, may be Thiruvasagam, this is the first time we could listen to such grand orchestration by Raja. The album also takes us to the 70s and 80s.

This time Raja has brought in the magic with a new set of singers like never before. Sunidhi, Ramya, Bela Shende, Karthik and his own Yuvan. Sunidhi, now a little experienced singer in tamil, has been able to manage the pronunciations its seems. Not much of flaws in her tamil(unlike most non tamil voices), but her voice gets lost in the big orchestra behind.
Ramya NSK, must be a new comer. Good voice selection by Raja. Emotional parts have been perfectly expressed in Satru Munbu. Vaanam mella reminds us of Kathal oviyam featuring Jency. Bela's to an extent resembles Jency in her voice as well as the feel. She also reminds us  Shreya Ghoshal in her initial days of courier with Raja. Bela could be a possible replacement of Shreya in Raja's albums.

Kathik, one of the finest singers of this time has given his best in this album. Just proving the hypes given by promos, Ennodu vaa vaa endru could become one of the best numbers of 2012. Raja's classical storm is striking us for more than 4 minutes. The old raja's guitar works have made a come back, especially the bass. Ilaya nila of this decade.

As of my knowledge, Pudikala mamu is a new situation that Raja has scored for. A closer resemblance would be Raja! Rajathi rajan inda raja! But the folk part could have been tried using a singer other than Karthik. It would have been more lively. Karthik has been more 'musicful' than rather expressing the feel.

Yuvan, the unexpected pick of Raja has been given the best one to sing for. Pengal yendral lacks a little bit of energy from Yuvan. But still, not being a complete rock song, Yuvan has reproduced Raja's touch in the charanam part.

Saindhu Saindhu - the most awaited part of this album proved to be the best of raja in recent years. Tune, feel, lyrics, background and everything is perfectly blended in this track. Although Yuvan's stlye has been controlled by Raja in the recording (a guess), as a singer, Yuvan is a good match. Na.Muthukumar's words are fresh. "En thayai pola oru pennai thedi unai kandukonden. En thanthai thozan ondrana aanai naan kandukonden ". Dominating all these is the 45 seconds interlude (3:25 to 4:11). Expectations for this scene is building up beyond the limit.

Maestro's music is once again out to disturb our hearts.

Electrical Vs Mechanical

Engineering in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical are known as Evergreen because of their importance in our planet. But Electrical Engineering is a little different from the other two. Generally in terms of the physical availability. One can see most mechanical things. Its not so in electrical. Although it exists, you cannot see them. You can feel but it is not safe to feel it :P . For most mechanical engineers like me, it was always challenging to understand electrical engineering. But, last two years have been spectacular in proving me the similarity between electrical and mechanical. Thanks to our Utility team at  HeroMotoCorp in making me understand this.
To start with, physical objects of electrical and mechanical are always comparable. A valve that controls the flow of a fluid is similar to a switch that controls current flow. A battery and capacitor which can store energy can be compared to flywheel and spring respectively. A Transformer can change voltage and current like a gearbox does with torque and rpm.  Pump and generator, motor and turbine, volt meter and pressure gauge are some more examples. Some of the components exist with the same names like regulators, filters, rectifiers etc.
Not only the objects, the concepts are also the same. Voltage and force, current and velocity, resistance and friction, capacitance and compliance are a few couples to name. Even the laws. Poiseuille's law corresponds to the Ohm's law of electricity. Kirchoff's Current Law and Kirchoff's Voltage Law are similar to method of joints and method of sections respectively.
May be it is because of these similarities, Electro-Mechanical systems have become the backbone of Engineering.

Fuel prices in India

For the past 1 year I 'm seeing posts like the following on facebook. Thousands of shares and millions of comments. Not to forget the touching taglines like "Share if u r an indian", "Itna share karo ta ki pura Desh jaga do", "pass it to every indias"...

Petrol prices have been rising countinously in the country. Why? Most people say that the politicians are being bribed by the Oil companies. Often there is also a comparison between our neighbour with outdated figures. Do you think that the price of crude oil in the world market is the same since 1947. The recent crude oil cost is around Rs.40 per litre in world market. In such a case how can sri lanka or pakistan or Bangladesh even supply gasoline @ figures not exceeding Rs.30.

Everybody can understand that when supply doesn't meet the demand, cost automatically goes up. Is the consumption of oil in our country the same since 1947? In the past 10 years, our oil consumption has increased by 100%. I would say "even population is under control". Again what is the reason behind? The reason is you. You don't wanna travel in a public transport. You need a motorcycle or a car on your own. Even if you are single, you still need a car. Right? Some of you may argue that you use a motorcycle. You still need a 350cc  for your daily transport where a 100cc engine can comfortably carry 2 people with a wonderful economy. Ultimately, who is the benefiter?? Oil and automobile companies. It was you who benefited them by your consumption but you finally blame them for fuel price rise.

I salute all the activist who share about petrol price rise in India. But, does  it mean that your sharing creates awareness? Nope. You only get irritating logs like "someone has shared your post".

Stop blaming your country and its men. Act as a responsible citizen. Small drop of water makes a big flood. If you do your duty right, at least 1 of 100 watching you may get inspired and follow you.

Jai hind!
